Mia Ruhman (b.2003) is a Los Angeles based composer, soprano, and actress. Ruhman was a 2019-21 fellow in the LA Phil's composer fellowship program, the LA Phil YOLA Sue Tsao composer fellow in 2020, the winner of a global music award (2024), and served on the speaking panel of the 77th National League of American Orchestra conference. Her compositions have been conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and Grant Gershon, and performed by the LA Phil, the National Children’s Chorus, Seraphour, Hub New Music and the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles. A fourth year music composition undergraduate at UCLA, Ruhman studies composition with Professor Ian Krouse and classical voice with Professor Vladimir Chernov. Ruhman’s largest project to date is the completion of her original opera, Nannerl, to which she both composed the score and wrote the libretto. A fully staged piano vocal production of Nannerl will be mounted in 2025, consisting of 20 person cast- with Ruhman playing the role of “Nannerl”. Ruhman sang on the grammy award winning recording of Maherl’s 8th, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, and also sings as a soprano in UCLA Chamber Singers. Ruhman works for the National Children’s Chorus as a musicianship instructor and for the Palisades Methodist Church as soprano section leader.

Though Nannerl was ordered to cease touring at 18, her journey as a musician, teacher, and composer was only beginning.
